I bought my kid an Xbox One wireless controller and adapter for his Widows 7 machine and when I plug the wireless adapter into a USB port Windows detects it as an 'unknown device' and disables it with a code 43 error message. I've tried plugging in an Xbox 360 wireless adapter I have and it works fine. I've also tried to plugging the Xbox One wireless adapter into my Windows 10 machine and it works fine. I figure an easy fix would to just let my kid use the older Xbox 360 controller and adapter but the main reason I invested in the Xbox One controller is that it's slightly smaller so it's easier for him to use. I've tried updating the drivers but I get a message saying their up to date.
So far I've tried uninstalling the drivers, unplugged the adapter, restarted the system and then plugged the wireless adapter back into a USB port but I still get the 'Unknown Device/Code 43' error. I've tried searching online for drivers to manually install them but for whatever reason Microsoft guards their drivers like a miser with his gold. Anyone know of a workaround or how to get this stupid wireless adapter to be recognized by Widows 7? Or should i just say 'screw it' and let my kid play games with the old 360 controlled setup?
Also the computer does recognize the Xbox One controller when I plug it in with a USB cord but only after I managed to find some drivers I had to install manually. I wonder if those drivers might be the problem.
